About the MacBook Air (pre 2010 model)
Weighing as little as 1.36 kilos (3 pounds), the MacBook Air is just three-quarters of an inch high.
Available with either a 1.86GHz or 2.13Ghz processor, it comes with 2Gb of RAM. There are presently two hard drive options - a 120Gb SATA drive or a 128Gb solid state drive, which will give longer battery life. When doing simple tasks like surfing the web, battery life is up to 5 hours.
It has full Wireless and Bluetooth support. The 256Mb graphics card is from NVIDIA.
Apple's optical SuperDrive connects via USB to read or write CDs and DVDs. You won't need a power supply, as the power comes through the USB connection, but this does mean that at present the SuperDrive will not work with other MacBooks. If you're considering the SuperDrive to install software, remember that programs can be installed wirelessly from another Mac using Apple's RemoteDisc (standard with OSX) - or from another PC.
The power cable attachment is magnetic, meaning that if it gets snagged or someone trips on it then it will just pop out without any danger of damage to the cable, the MacBook Air or the person who snagged it!
The keyboard is backlit and automatically adjusts brightness according to available light. The trackpad allows multi-finger control as well as 'pinching' (to resize and zoom) and rotating.
Built in are a mono speaker, a microphone and a webcam (the iSight camera). The 13 inch screen supports resolutions up to 1280 x 800 pixels. The outputs are a stereo analogue audio out (minijack), a USB Port and a Mini DisplayPort to power an external monitor (up to 2560 x 1600 pixels on a 30 inch screen).
